The Power of the Exhale
Take a breath… Calm down… Get a hold of yourself!!!
Sometimes these phrases put us more on edge because they imply we’re out of control.
And you know what? If you’re not breathing, you are out of control. Seriously. The knee-jerk/instinctive/reptilian/fight-or-flight part of your brain kicks in and you actually cannot think rationally.
The problem is that life often feels like one big inhale. We hold our breath, dive in, and rarely come up for air. The process of breathing can teach us a lot about letting go. Learn how to exhale and learn how to live. Or at least, how to think. Either way, learning to exhale is an excellent start.
